Project coordinator Balázs Lengyel opened the programme with an overview of the research conducted within DUT-COLINE and the progress achieved so far. The meeting then provided an opportunity to connect the project’s scientific work with the data, modelling tools and practical experience available among Budapest’s transport and urban development stakeholders.

Max von Münster from BKK presented the organisation’s use of Waze congestion data and some of the analyses and developments built on this information. The presentation also introduced BKK’s current research, development and innovation portfolio.

Connecting home, work and urban amenities The Hungarian COLINE team presented its latest work in the research area “Workplaces and Mobility: Connecting Home, Work, and Amenities.” László Lőrincz presented analyses investigating how people access and visit services and amenities in relation to both their homes and workplaces. Using Magyar Telekom and GPS- based mobility data, the research explores how the location of workplaces influences people’s everyday activity spaces and whether considering destinations around the workplace provides a more complete understanding of urban accessibility.

The presentations were followed by questions and an open discussion. Stakeholders provided valuable suggestions regarding possible directions for the next stages of the research and ways in which the results could become relevant for transport planning and urban policy.
The participants identified several concrete opportunities for further cooperation. These included collaboration on public transport research, exchanges with Austrian stakeholders involved in COLINE, and the cross-validation of payment-card transaction data with mobility data.
The meeting demonstrated the value of bringing researchers, transport professionals, municipal data experts and private-sector data providers together. The dialogue will continue over the coming months, with the next Hungarian stakeholder meeting planned for early autumn.
