On 6 November 2025, DUT-COLINE coordinator Balázs Lengyel (ANETI Lab, ELTE KRTK & Corvinus University) presented our work at the conference “Városi életminőség és közlekedés” (Urban Quality of Life and Transport) in Budapest. His talk, “Közösségi közlekedés a 15-perces városban” (Public transport in the 15-minute city) showed how DUT-COLINE uses mobility data to understand and improve everyday accessibility in European cities.
Drawing on open GTFS, OpenStreetMap and telecom mobility data, the presentation explored how quickly residents can reach key urban services within 5–15 minutes by combining public transport with walking and cycling. The results underline several key messages for DUT-COLINE: public transport strongly expands short-trip accessibility, fine-grained local connections remain crucial in suburban areas, and better accessibility can support more inclusive neighbourhoods by fostering social mixing.
By linking the 15-minute city concept with evidence from Budapest and other DUT-COLINE case study cities, the conference contribution strengthened dialogue between research and practice in Hungary and highlighted how our European partnership can support more liveable, accessible and socially inclusive cities.
